Caring for Wool Saddle Blankets

Storage

Store the blanket in a cool, dry place without direct sunlight exposure to prevent fading. Before long-term storage, ensure it is completely clean and dry.

Regular Cleaning

  • Regularly brush off hair, dirt, and sweat gently with a soft or medium-stiff horsehair brush to prevent buildup.
  • Hang the blanket in a well-ventilated area to dry after use.
  • Avoid leaving it damp or rolled up, as this can cause mold or mildew.
  • If you ride often, rotate between a few blankets to reduce wear and extend the life of each blanket.

Occational Deep Cleaning

  • Hand-wash with cold water and a mild wool-safe soap.
  • Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners that can damage the wool fibers.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue
  • Lay the blanket flat or hang it over a rail in the shade to air dry.
  • Avoid direct sunlight (which can fade colors) and never machine dry, as this can cause shrinkage or felting.
